Hi! My name is Steve Meeks, and I serve as an Elder at SMCC. I grew up in Hueytown; it is still our home. Taken to church until my early teens, never doubting God or any of the stories of the Bible, but I quit going to church as soon as I was able. Everything I knew made no difference in my life. Classically a head-knowledge and a stone heart.

On a Sunday afternoon in 1981, with a simple invitation to a Friday night Bible study, God began the process of conviction and repentance that led to my salvation a few short weeks later. There is still conviction and repentance, but now it is coming from a loving Father not a Judge.

I am officially retired after 47 years at our 66 year old family business. Deb and I are still trying to navigate the days in our “new life”, praying for God to show us His will for our future. We have two grown children, one son-in-law and 4 perfectly wonderful grandchildren. Just ask, we will tell you.

Hobbies:

I love being outside with my best friend Debbie; we've been married for 42 years. One of our favorite things to do is riding our motorcycle. I drive; she prays.
Family gatherings and having friends over is also a delight.

Role:

I am one of the Lay Elders here at SMCC. Along with my responsibilities as an Elder, I also teach a Core Class, and co-lead a Growth Group. Teaching has been one of my greatest joys as a believer. God’s Word empowered by the Holy Spirit is His means for us “to become conformed to the image of His Son”. God’s Word speaks into and is relevant in every area of life.

Favorite Scripture:

Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

1 Peter 1:3
