Hey! I’m Jonathan Owen, the Children’s and Middle School Pastor. I am also the Director of Camp Adventure (our summer-long day camp for kids in the community). I grew up as a pastor’s kid and came to faith in Christ at a young age. I always had a desire to work in the church, specifically with children and began serving in children’s ministry starting in high school. That is also when I began working at our summer day camp as a counselor.

After graduating high school, I went to Southeastern Bible College here in town and began to intern in the student ministries at SMCC. As the years went on, my responsibilities at the church began to increase and I eventually became the Youth Pastor as well as the director of Camp Adventure. It was at our camp that I met my wife, Kristin. We were married a short time later at SMCC, and she began to become a valuable ministry partner who I have had the honor of serving alongside ever since. In 2011, I transitioned from student ministries to children’s and middle school ministry where I have been serving ever since.

One of my passions is using creativity to help engage children and youth with the Gospel. Whether it’s writing children’s musicals or editing videos, I always love using my gifts and interests for the benefit of the church. Our home is filled with a lot of fun and laughter. My wife and I have three biological daughters and one son, who we adopted from Hungary back in 2019. We are passionate about orphan care and have seen God grow us in both challenging and rewarding ways throughout this process.

We also have a dog named Scrappy-Doo.

Hobbies:

Most weekends I can be found hanging out with my kids at the farmer’s market. In my own free time I enjoy watching films, drinking coffee, or playing board games with friends.

Role:

I am the Children’s and Middle School Pastor. As the Children’s Pastor, I teach our Sunday morning Kids Church, direct our Kingdom Kids choir, and oversee our Wednesday Bible memory program called Adventure Crew. On Sundays and Wednesdays, I also lead our middle school youth group and worship band. In the summer I direct Camp Adventure, our summer-long day camp for kids in the community.

Favorite Scripture:

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:3-5
